Paintworks, BS4 3AR
Any applicant considering applying for an IFS Distinction in 2019 should ensure they prepare files which are a minimum of 4096 pixels wide (landscape) or 2160 pixels high (portrait). All other requirements remain unchanged.

The Royal Photographic Society Distinctions are recognised as the most prestigious in the photographic world. There are three levels, the first being Licentiate followed by Associate and then the Fellowship. 

The Standard for Licentiate is high; it is demanding but achievable for the vast majority of dedicated photographers. 

It is essential that you book onto an assessment day in order for your portfolio of work to be assessed. 

To book, please complete and return an LRPS booking form. When we receive your form, we will process your booking and you will receive confirmation of the booking via email. This email will contain more information on the next stages of your application. 

Opening times

RPS House is open from 9:00am until 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Portfolio delivery/collection can be made during these times. Our gallery is open as follows: Thursday 10am – 6pm; Friday 11am - 7pm; Saturday 10am – 5pm; Sunday 10am – 5pm (Gallery is closed Monday to Wednesday, other facilities open by appointment only).

Cancellation policy

Distinctions Cancellation Policy. After submitting your application form, if for any reason you are unable to send your submission or need to make other changes, please e-mail the relevant level or or Any cancellations or change requests must be made via e-mail. If you cancel/defer within 14 days of your assessment date you will be fully charged for the assessment. We are unable to offer a refund or deferral. You can request once only to cancel/defer 15 days or more prior to your assessment, without any charge, but all future requests will incur a £25 administration charge. The Society is unable to refund any cancellation or offer a transfer to another event if the attendee does not notify the Distinctions Department by e-mail 14 days prior to the event start date. email The Society reserves the right to cancel any event 7 days prior to its start date, or less than 24 hours due to adverse weather conditions or extraordinary circumstances beyond its control. All attendees are advised to check hotel and travel cancellation/refund policies, as the Society is unable to offer compensation for any loss.

Hearing and access requirements

Accessibility - If you have any accessibility requirements, please contact us on in advance so we can assist you in your visit to RPS House. Though there is some accessibility parking in Paintworks, we have some private parking spaces we can reserve for those with accessibility requirements. Please contact us in advance if you would like to reserve a space. From street level car parking there are lifts available to reach RPS House on the raised ground floor. Within RPS House, all areas are fully accessible with a lift and ramps and restrooms on each floor
